18/03/2011 Red Nose Day

For Red Nose Day, Sean Rafferty talks classical music with members of the Australian nobility: Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson. With improvisations from Harry the Piano.

The international Classical Music world is highly complex and often misunderstood, riven with hierarchies and ruled by huge egos. In this special Comic Relief edition of In Tune, arts-analyst Dame Edna Everage, and Cultural Ambassador (and former Chairman of the International Cheese Board) Sir Les Patterson join Sean Rafferty to penetrate the mysteries of classical music both around the world and in Australia. Harry the Piano, already known to Radio 3 listeners from the Genius of Mozart, improvises on themes suggested by listeners plus a few other 'culturally relevant' tunes.

Today's programme also reveals the winning presenter of the cross-Radio Stand-Up for Comic Relief with Radio 3's Tom Service trying his hand at stand-up, plus a feature on a musical project Comic Relief supports: the Lofthouse 2000 Brass Band, a former colliery band who have used money to buy new instruments.
