Both nations have won the Grand Slam in recent years but they have made a faltering start to the 2011 tournament. Wales were beaten at home by England, while Ireland only narrowly overcame Italy before losing to France. Wales did at least end an 11-month winless streak by defeating Scotland in February, thanks in no small part to all-time leading try scorer Shane Williams. Ireland have stagnated since winning the Grand Slam in 2009, and the last time they put in a performance to get the pulses racing was against Wales in the 2010 Six Nations.
