At 1-Is it time for Pakistan to do a deal with the Taliban?

Dreadful news from North west Pakistan today. Eighty people have been killed at a military training base by suicide bombers, another one hundred and twenty have been injured. The Pakistani Taliban say they carried out the attack as revenge for the killing of Osama bin Laden. Their spokesman, speaking to the Reuters news agency, say there will be more to come.

Although the Pakistani Government receive money and military aid from the United States the security situation there seems desperate. Three thousand members of their security forces and many more Pakistani civilians have died in the war on terror.

The Indian President Manmohan Singh has encouraged the Afghanistan Government to negotiate with the Taliban in that country, should the Pakistan Government do the same?
