24/05/2011 - Alan Curtis, Donna Leon, Brodsky Quartet

With Sean Rafferty. Conductor Alan Curtis and author Donna Leon discuss their passion for Handel's operas. The Brodsky Quartet perform Ravel ahead of their concert at Wigmore Hall.

Sean Rafferty interviews conductor Alan Curtis and author Donna Leon about their shared passion for Handel's operas. Alan Curtis is conducting the baroque orchestra Il Complesso Barocco performing Handel's Ariodante at the Barbican later this week. He has also conducted Il Complesso Barocco in a CD that accompanies the book 'Handel's Bestiary: In Search of Handel's Operas' - written by Donna and inspired by her interest in Handel's arias which reference animals and animal symbolism.

Also on the programme the Brodsky Quartet perform Ravel and Falla live in the studio. They talk to Sean about their return to Wigmore Hall where they will perform a programme from the early twentieth century featuring Turina, Ravel and Bartok.
