Neil Mackay hears from investigative journalists about the stories of their careers. Martin Dillon explains why he investigated the Shankill Butchers, despite the risks.
Startling stories from behind the headlines. Neil Mackay - the Sunday Herald's multi-award winning Home Affairs and Investigations Editor - hears from fellow investigative journalists about the biggest stories of their careers. The guest on this edition of 'The Scoop' investigated one of the most brutal series of murders in British legal history.
The 'Shankill Butchers' as they were known spread fear amongst the catholic community because of their spree of indiscriminate killings against them. Little did Martin Dillon know when he started looking into their activities that it was an investigation which would leave him and his family's safety in jeopardy. Having grown up in Northern Ireland fellow Irishman Neil McKay knows only too well just what fear the Shankill Butchers instilled in the community. Neil hears what gave Martin Dillon the courage to take them on.
