In programme one, You've Got To Be Carefully Taught, Joanna examines how Broadway's shows have responded to and mirrored changes in American society; adapting and thriving during political and cultural upheaval. From its roots in the immigrant community, to the birth of the Civil Rights movement and the horror of 9/11, Broadway has played its part in changing attitudes and breaking boundaries.
Interviewees in the three-part series include Hal Prince, Oscar Hammerstein III, Jim Dale, Joel Grey and the award-winning directors Michael Mayer and Julie Taymor.
