A devastated Mercy decides to return to Nigeria in secret - but can Dot warn Fat Boy before it is too late? Billy and Julie visit a children's home to meet their newest relative.
Christian and Roxy have drunkenly trashed the Square and stolen Arthur’s bench. Zainab, Dot and Jean are outraged. In the café, a group of homophobic boys start taunting Christian and Syed. Christian takes great delight in standing up to them, but Syed’s annoyed with him for involving Amy – she’s a child, not a poster girl for gay rights.
Julie refuses to discuss their granddaughter, Lola. Undeterred, Billy drives Julie to a children’s home and on arrival tells her they’re there to meet Lola. Seeing one girl attack another in a common room, they’re dismayed to realise the attacker is their granddaughter. Lola and Billy talk, but Julie’s very quiet and soon wants to leave. Lola steals Billy’s wallet when he hugs her.
Mercy tries to talk to Fatboy, but he’s preoccupied by his new job, thoughts of their future flat and Dot’s gift of Bradley’s old briefcase. Mercy tells Grace she’s got a flight home booked for that night. Grace’s still hopeful they can fight the decision and Mercy might be allowed to stay in the UK, but Mercy’s determined to put things right and let Fatboy go. Upset, Grace tells Dot, who then tells Fatboy. Fatboy rushes to the bus stop and begs Mercy to stay and give him another chance. Emotional, Mercy says goodbye before driving away in a taxi.
Kat and Alfie are exhausted. Eddie insists he and Jean will look after the pub, and sends Tyler out to collect some ‘antiques’. Jean panics when Eddie leaves her alone in the bar, but is thrilled when Tyler tells her she’s getting the hang of it. Later, Eddie announces to Kat and Alfie they’re going on holiday to Spain. Jean kisses Eddie on the cheek, thanking him for bringing the family back to life.
