Community leaders
Naresh Puri sits in for Nihal. Are community leaders out of touch and out of date? Plus our weekly news quiz, Guess the Story.
At 1- Are community leaders out of touch and out of date?
How do you feel about the role that "community leaders" play in the UK? Do you think that are a valuable way for people who attend Mosques, Mandirs or Gurdwaras to get their views across? Or are community leaders a selfish, unrepresentative, self serving group who are only in it for the power and influence?
A new report by the Joseph Rowntree foundation suggests community leaders are failing the people they're trying to serve. It describes them as poorly educated, often unable to speak English, and as being more interested in empire building than helping the people they're trying to serve
Is that your view? Or do you think community leaders are brilliant? We've often had people phoning into this programme saying how community leaders have disapproved of their lifestyle choices, often with devastating consequences. Do you think they're a positive or negative influence on Asians in the UK?
After 2- We'll be playing our weekly news quiz Guess the Story.
