Bamberg Symphony Orchestra - Ravel
In a concert given at the Usher Hall as part of 2011's Edinburgh International Festival, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra principal conductor Jonathan Nott leads an all-Ravel programme.
EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2011
The inventiveness and brilliance of a single composer is celebrated in this all-Ravel programme given by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under its Principal Conductor, Jonathan Nott. Recorded at the Usher Hall, 3rd September 2011.
Ravel's experimental set of Waltzes shocked audiences of his day with its combination of classical charm and acerbic modernity while his ballet Daphnis et Chloe, written for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes has a rich and sumptuous score, complete with wordless chorus performed here by the Edinburgh Festival Chorus.
Pianist Pierre-Laurend Aimard performs his powerful and sometime dark Concerto for Left Hand, commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein who lost his right arm in the First World War.
Ravel: Valses Nobles et Sentimentales; Piano Concerto for the Left Hand; Daphnis et Chloe (complete ballet).
