Paul Gambaccini presents tracks from this week's US charts and hits from the last six decades.
In the feature Baby What A Big Surprise [they really were Number One albums] we hear Graduation Day by the Beach Boys from Beach Boys Concert, the first live rock album to top the chart. We also hear What Would You Do? from Body Kiss released by the Isley Brothers in 2003 and their first number one in 28 years.
Regular feature The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face brings songs from LPs by The Lovin' Spoonful and Bee Gees, while It's Not The Same Old Song highlights Sweet Love by the Commodores and a different song with the same title by Anita Baker.
In A Matter Of Life And Death Paul celebrates the birth on this date in 1945 of Melba Moore and pays tribute to the recently deceased pianist Roger Williams. We Are Family by Sister Sledge and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place by the Animals are this week's featured songs from the Grammy Hall Of Fame Singles list.
Our R&B Number Ones are from 1972 - I'll Be Around by Spinners - and this week - So In Love by Jill Scott & Anthony Hamilton. We hear Country Number Ones from 1967 and now by Tammy Wynette and Blake Shelton and this week's past and present Rock Number Ones are by Smash Mouth and Bush. The new album by Evanescence enters at Number One in the US album chart and on the singles side, Adele's Someone Like is still Number One.
