Thursday - Sean Rafferty

Presented by Sean Rafferty, with live performances in the studio by pianist Clare Hammond and the Smith Quartet and an interview with conductor James Gaffigan.

Pianist Clare Hammond performs works by Kenneth Hesketh, Franz Liszt and Karol Szymanowski live in the In Tune studio ahead of her performances at Queen's University, Belfast and City University, London.

Minimal: Glass at 75 will be a weekend-long festival in Glasgow celebrating composer Philip Glass's birthday. Featured artists include the Smith Quartet, who will be performing a complete concert of all of Glass's string quartets at the Tramway. They will be in the In Tune studio to play works by the American minimalist composer.

The young American conductor James Gaffigan joins Sean in the studio before his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Having recently taken up appointments with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Gaffigan is considered one of the most outstanding conductors of his generation.

Presented by Sean Rafferty.
