The "folk opera" Dr Dee, has been a work of love for Damon Albarn, directed by Rufus Norris, it was inspired by Albarn's fascination with Dee and his lasting influence on English identity. In his time Dee, called for the creation of a British Empire, helped explorers navigate the New World and held seances.
