Poppy pressure? And nostalgia for 'back home'.
Is there too much pressure to wear the poppy and observe the Remembrance silences? Plus is the nostalgia for 'back home' irritating?
At 1, Nihal will be asking - Is there too much pressure to wear the poppy and observe the remembrance silences?
Are you wearing a poppy? Did you observe the two minute silence today at 11? If so, was it because you wanted to show your respect for the war dead or because you felt pressure, whether that was social, political or business, to do so? We saw FIFA reverse their decision on banning the English football team wearing the emblem in their game against Spain on Saturday. This was after Prince William and Prime Minister David Cameron wrote letters urging FIFA to allow player to wear poppies.
But do you agree? Do you fear you will be seen as unpatriotic if you don't observe the two minute silence? Or do you think if you live in this country then you should adopt this part of the culture too as a sign of respect? Call Nihal and tell him what you think.
At 2, Is the nostalgia for "back home" irritating?
What do you think when you hear people talking about "back home" being the best thing in the world. Do you think that's ok or do you get annoyed? If someone tells you they think India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka is so much better than the UK, do you ask them why don't they move back there?
We want to explore why some British Asians still consider their parents homeland as their homeland instead of the UK and whether there is anything wrong in doing so.
