The CIPD says the job market in the UK faces a 'slow and painful contraction'. But the employers organisation, the CBI, says nearly half of businesses plan to hire more staff.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development says the jobs market is facing a slow and painful contraction.
Many firms are locked in a "wait-and-see" mode - reluctant to make decisions on recruitment while there's so much uncertainty about the eurozone and the global economy. But there's better news from - the CBI. Their trends survey of more than 462 UK companies suggests things are on the up. They say nearly half of Britain's businesses plan to hire more staff over the next year - and this is being led by small and medium-sized companies.
