For the last programme in November, and with the days becoming ever shorter, Russell investigates various aspects of "night-time" in song.

The featured songs include Peter Skellern's re-working of an old Ink Spots hit of the 40s; an amalgam of three or four train songs - including Night Train - by Pete Atkin, Julie Covington and Russell himself. There are also songs famous (Deep Purple, Oh How I Miss You Tonight, You And The Night And The Music); and forgotten (That Never-To-Be-Forgotten Night, When It's Night-Time In Italy, It's Wednesday Over Here); and more by a galaxy of artists including Sinatra, Fats Waller, Carol Sloane, Julie London and Rebecca Kilgore.

Midway, he takes time out to mark the centenary of New York theatre-man David Merrick. In between relating some of his theatrical outrages, he plays music from three productions he was involved in, by Harold Rome, Lena Horne and Mel Torm茅. And along the way he finds time to look into the career of songsmith James Kendis.
