Susan Hulme reports on the proceedings in the Commons as the Scottish Secretary tells MPs that the coalition wants a referendum on Scottish independence "sooner rather than later".
The Transport Secretary announces that a new high-speed rail line between London and Birmingham will go ahead. Justine Greening says the project will help boost the economy.
In the Lords, ministers deny "snubbing" Britain's EU partners by vetoing a new European Union treaty intended to help prop up the Euro.
While on the committee corridor, MPs take fresh evidence on the UK's extradition treaty with the United States.
