Donald Runnicles conducts the 大象传媒 SSO at City Halls, Glasgow. Ravel arr. Tognetti: Deux melodies hebraiques. Ravel: Une barque sur l'ocean; Valse nobles et sentimentales; La valse.

Presented by Jamie MacDougall

Live from City Halls, Glasgow

Steven Isserlis and the 大象传媒 SSO conducted by Donald Runnicles play Debussy and Ravel.
Two great orchestral portraits by Debussy and Ravel - of the ocean and of fin-de-si猫cle Vienna - begin and end the concert. But between them, two rarities for cello and orchestra - fruits of Steven Isserlis's restless quest to expand the cello repertoire. Most exciting is the 'lost' early Cello Suite by Debussy. Sally Beamish has beautifully orchestrated the two surviving movements and arranged three other pieces to sit alongside them, making a substantial 'new' work.
