Kofi Annan's peace mission to Syria and Roland Buerk is live from Japan as the country prepares to mark the first anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami.
Dotun Adebayo with news from around the world. Joshua Landis is the director of the Centre for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He tells Up All Night that the situation in Syria will deteriorate despite Kofi Annan's peace mission. One of Mr Annan's key aims in Damascus is to get food and medical supplies into Homs. Omar Shakir has just escaped from the city after four weeks of bombardment by Syrian troops. He tells Dotun about his escape and his fear that violence will soon turn into civil war.
