In the feature Headline News [Number One Albums On Noteworthy Days] we hear the title track of the Barbra Streisand LP, People. It was number one on 3 November 1964 - the day on which Lyndon B. Johnson was elected President. We also hear Penny Lane from The Beatles' compilation album 1. It was number one on 12 December 2000 - the day on which the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Bush over Gore regarding votes in Florida.
In the regular feature The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, songs are featured from albums by Michael McDonald and Dave Matthews Band; while It's Not The Same Old Song highlights On And On by Gladys Knight & The Pips and a different song with the same title by Stephen Bishop.
In A Matter Of Life And Death, Paul celebrates the birth on this date in 1935 of session bass player Carole Kaye by playing one of the many classics she played on: Wouldn't It Be Nice by The Beach Boys. We also hear You're Sixteen by Johnny Burnette. It is played in tribute to the songwriter Robert Sherman, who recently died. You Are My Sunshine by Jimmie Davis and You Are The Sunshine Of My Life by Stevie Wonder are this week's featured records from the Grammy Hall Of Fame Singles list.
Our R&B Number Ones are from 1962 - Twistin' The Night Away by Sam Cooke, and this week - Love On Top by Beyonce. We hear a 1978 Country Number One from Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson, and Carrie Underwood's present day hit. And this week's past and present Rock Number Ones are by Eric Clapton and Gotye featuring Kimbra.
Bruce Sprinsteen's new album Wrecking Ball enters the chart at number one while We Are Young by fun. featuring Janelle Monae is the best-selling single.
