Louise Fryer presents Radio 3's annual celebration of Holy Week with live and specially recorded concerts from the European Broadcasting Union.
Radio 3 celebrates Palm Sunday with its annual day of live and specially recorded concerts from around Europe in conjunction with the European Broadcasting Union. The day begins with Bach's mighty St Matthew Passion live from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, with Mark Padmore and Peter Harvey in the roles of the Evangelist and Jesus. Following this, a short concert of Psalms by Meyerbeer and Spohr from the 大象传媒 Singers. At 3 o'clock there's a concert form the Prinzregententheater in Munich, where the Bavarian Radio Chorus perform a programme including Arvo Part's Berlin Mass. Antwerp's contribution to the day is a little-known setting by Reinhard Keiser of the Brockes Passion, the influential text of which was written by Barthold Heinrich Brockes exactly 200 years ago. The final concert features the 大象传媒 Singers, live from St Paul's Knightsbridge in a programme including Stainer's Crucifixion.
