Gilles Peterson gives Radio 2 listeners a taste of his eclectic new weekly 大象传媒 Radio 6 Music show, joining the dots between jazz, house, hip hop, soul and leftfield music from around the world. One of the most influential DJs of the last 25 years, Gilles started his career in pirate radio in the mid 1980s before going on to present shows on 大象传媒 London, Jazz FM and Radio 1. On the way he founded two seminal record labels - Acid Jazz and Talkin' Loud - launching the careers of Galliano, Jamiroquai and Carleen Anderson amongst others. He's also DJed worldwide from Cuba to Brazil, via Japan, America and France, unearthing music from all eras and all genres along the way. More recently his new Brownswood label has launched the career of Mercury nominated artist Ghostpoet and has seen him bring over musicians from Havana to perform alongside him in the UK. This month Gilles launches a brand show on 大象传媒 Radio 6 Music, bringing his vast record collection and infectious passion for music to a daytime audience, every Saturday from 3-6pm. Tonight he gives Radio 2 listeners a flavour of what they can expect, from latin beats to tropical jazz, via soulful house, hip hop and boundary pushing electronica.
