Haydn
In a concert from St David's Hall in Cardiff, Thierry Fischer conducts the 大象传媒 National Orchestra of Wales in a performance of Haydn's Symphony No 104 (London).
Live from St David's Hall, Cardiff
Presented by Nicola Heywood Thomas
The 大象传媒 National Orchestra of Wales and Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer perform symphonies by Haydn and Mahler.
Haydn's final symphony, No 104, is not only the crowning glory of his sequence of symphonies written for London but also an ebullient farewell to the genre which he had virtually created more than three decades earlier.
After the interval soprano Lisa Milne joins the orchestra to sing in Mahler's glorious Fourth Symphony - one of his most relaxed works which culminates in a musical representation of a child's view of heaven.
