Shaun welcomes Irvine Welsh in to chat about his new book, the prequel to Trainspotting, plus his usual kicking playlist, from northern soul to new folk to indie disco.

Thursday sees Scottish writer Irvine Welsh pop into the studio to chat about his new book Skagboys and the music that inspired his writing.

The prequel to Trainspotting, Skagboys looks at the earlier lives of characters Renton and Sick Boy, as they descend into heroin addiction.

The book sees Renton, who was played by Ewan McGregor in the hit movie of the book, crack under the pressure of being the first person in his family to go to university and the conflict he has with his older brother. It also follows Begbie's transformation from a young man who can handle himself, up through the ranks of hardmen, to something far more ruthless.
