Ivan Hewett presents the first of two programmes featuring new orchestral works developed through "Embedded" residencies with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra conducted by Garry Walker

And in this week's Hear And Now Fifty, composer George Benjamin advocates the "exuberant, thrilling and virtuosic" orchestral piece Chronochromie by his former teacher, Olivier Messiaen; while Paul Griffiths describes the significance of the work in the European avant-garde scene of the 1960s.
