Snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan has publicly thanked a psychiatrist for helping him carry on playing. Kaye asks whether the taboos about therapy are breaking down.

Ronnie "The Rocket" O'Sullivan picked up his fourth World Snooker Championship this week and said he wouldn't even have been playing anymore if it hadn't been for the help of psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters.

O'Sullivan is well known for being a colourful, turbulent character, and one who was on the verge of quitting the green baize forever. But if a former bad boy can praise his shrink in public, are our attitudes to emotional well-being beginning to change for the better?

Is it really good to talk, and take advantage of the numerous talking therapies and counselling services out there? Or do we Scots still think we just need to pull ourselves together?
