President Obama says he supports gay marriage, tributes are paid to Vidal Sassoon who has died in Los Angeles, a portrait of Elvis fetches millions and we discuss driverless cars.

Rhod Sharp with stories from around the world.
Barack Obama has become the first US president in history to say he supports gay people who want to get married. All this comes just a day after North Carolina voted to make it illegal for people of the same sex to tie the knot. Stuart Campbell, executive director of Equality North Carolina, tells us he isn't sure if the President's statement would have made a difference in the North Carolina vote, but he thinks most Americans are in favour of marriage equality. And David Paul Kuhn from the website RealClearPolitics.com says it's going to be a real issue in November's election.

The 大象传媒's Lyse Doucet speaks to us from Syria, where there was an explosion just a few metres from a convoy of vehicles carrying United Nations inspectors who are monitoring the violence in the country. At least three Syrian soldiers were wounded. She's been to Homs, and says it was shocking - like walking through a ghost town.

Tributes have been paid to Vidal Sassoon, the celebrity stylist who's died in Los Angeles aged 84. We speak to Tim Wilson, a Californian hairdresser who spent all his money coming to the UK in the 1960s to work for Vidal. He says it was a dream come true, and argues that Vidal took women out of the shampoo and set look and told them to wash and go.

It's been another big night for big art. A portrait of Elvis by Andy Warhol has fetched 37 million dollars at auction in New York. Ray Waterhouse was at the auction - he tells us how Warhol was obsessed with celebrity, and this painting shows just how hot pop art is at the moment.

Could driverless cars cut down on accidents and make travel more relaxing? A new system is being developed by Google so anyone can become the ultimate back seat driver. We speak to Tom Jacobs from the Nevada department of motor vehicles. He describes it as cruise control on steroids, and describes how it uses GPS and radar technology.
