As the government announces it is toughening up the rules on who qualifies for special needs in schools - we ask: 'Are we too quick to label our kids?'.
One in 5 children in England is - in quotes - 'special needs' .... according to official figures. The government says that's too many - and nearly half a million of them SHOULDN'T be on that list. Children's minister Sarah Teather says the current system is FAILING children.
Is it GOOD to identify problems early on - and give those who need it extra attention and support? Or is it just too easy to write some children off at an early age ... and risk making them feel inferior for the rest of their life?
