Fruitful Partnerships
Donald Macleod introduces music Grieg wrote in collaboration with two of Norway's most important writers: Bjornstjerne Bjornson and Henrik Ibsen.
In the crucial period of the early 1870s when Grieg was working to establish himself in Oslo, it was the association he formed with the two most prominent Norwegian writers Henrik Ibsen and Bjornstjerne Bj枚rnson which probably did more for his standing there than anything else. Donald Macleod introduces two works he collaborated on with Bj枚rnson based on tales from the old Norse sagas, and the first of the concert suites Grieg famously made from the incidental music written to accompany Ibsen's Peer Gynt.
