Phil and Shirley rake over their past in an epic showdown, while Ian begins to unravel as the enormity of Ben's admission sinks in. Alice's party gets off to an awkward start.
Ian initially thinks Ben’s lying for attention. As the truth sinks in, he flees to the allotments and vomits. Ben tearfully pleads it was an accident. Ian’s horrified that Ben’s a true Mitchell and insists he do the right thing. Convinced Phil’s told the police, Ben heads off in Ian’s car. Phil watches them go, and confronts them outside the police station. Phil won’t see Ben ruin his future. Ian warns they’re no longer brothers if Ben doesn’t turn himself in. Panicking and breathless, Ben stumbles from the car and gazes at the police station.
Humiliated, Kim flees from Ray and Sasha to the Minute Mart, and makes Denise call Ray and lie that she had to work. When Ray realises she’s lied, Kim comes clean – she doesn’t do kids.
Shirley’s disgusted that Phil bullied Ben about Kathy. Phil hides his relief that that’s all she heard. Shirley’s tearful and won’t listen to Phil’s apologies for throwing her out. She thrusts vodka at him and cries on Heather’s bed, but lets Phil hold her. Phil remembers Heather once told him not to take Shirley for granted and insists he loves her. Shirley moves back home.
Jay cries. Abi worries that Heather’s murder has brought back feelings about his dad’s death. Tanya realises Jay’s mixed beer with Cora’s potent hay fever remedy. Jay pleads with Abi to never leave him.
Jack, Cora and Dot praise an absent Derek to Alice. Alice wonders why Tanya has nothing nice to say. She’s shocked by something Tanya reveals. The police leave the Butchers’ after an unfruitful search. Relieved, Derek checks the Absinthe stashed in the bin. He’s gutted to arrive at Max’s just as Alice leaves in a taxi.
