Sikhs protest against interfaith marriage.

Were protestors right to stop an inter-faith marriage from going ahead in a gurdwara? Plus immigration guru Harjap Bhangal answers visa-related questions.

Were protestors right to stop an inter-faith marriage going ahead in a gurdwara?

A wedding ceremony had to be abandoned over the weekend after a group of Sikhs locked themselves inside the temple where it was due to take place.

The group occupied the Kembrey Street temple in Swindon in protest against a marriage between a Sikh woman and a man said to be a Christian West African background. They believe that the Sikh wedding ceremony - the Anand Karaj - can only take place between two Sikhs.

But were these men right? Are they 'militants' as some papers are calling them or defenders of their faith? Is it disrespectful for Sikhs to marry non-Sikhs in a gurduwara? Or, should it be up to each, individual place of worship to decide who they allow to marry? Call Nihal and tell him what you think.

Later, The Guru
