Modelling in Pakistan

Are Pakistani parents right to stop their daughters from modelling? And should the tradition of staying with your mum after having a baby be ditched?

Are Pakistani parents right to stop their daughters from modelling?

We're asking this because of a Documentary called "Pakistan's next top model" going out tonight at 6 on this very station. Pakistan's fashion industry is going off the scale, some say its increased ten fold in recent years but while Pakistan has plenty of designers, craftsmen and shops the one thing it is lacking is models.

What do you think about this? If you're Pakistani and a parent would you let your daughter go into modelling?

The shortage is such that a new modelling school has opened in Lahore designed to produce more girls who are able to model for the fashion industry. Do you think that's the way to address the problem? Or do you think that the conservative and religious nature of the country will also mean modelling will be a problem?

What would you think if you saw a Muslim woman on the catwalk? Would that bother you? If there's a demand for fashion in Pakistan surely its right that Pakistani girls are on the catwalk?

There's even talk about importing Asians girls from the UK to fill the gap, is that something you would agree with?

After 2 pm - Should new mothers uphold the tradition of staying with their mum for forty days after giving birth? This is what we're talking about in this week's Keep it or Leave it.
