Did Rap Predict the Riots?

Charlie Sloth investigates whether UK rappers foresaw the riots of August 2011 in their lyrics.

Charlie Sloth investigates whether UK rappers foresaw the riots of August 2011 within their lyrics.

With the help of key underground rappers such as English Frank, Mic Righteous, Scorcher, Logic and Plan B, we find out how UK Rap reflected the urban young's state of mind leading up to August 2011.

We try to understand how common rap subjects such as politics, personal pain and materialism all had a part to play (and were reflected) in the 2011 riots. Including talking to Logic about police brutality, English Frank about how social networking was seen as helping the spread of trouble and Scorcher on the initial catalyst of the riots - Mark Duggan's death.
