Prom 13 - Beethoven, Boulez

A Prom in which Daniel Barenboim conducts the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. Beethoven: Symphony No 8. Boulez: Anthemes 2. Beethoven: Symphony No 7 in A, Op 92.

With Penny Gore

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, under the baton of Daniel Barenboim continues its Beethoven cycle with two dramatic symphonies: the tightly-coiled Eighth and the Seventh, famously dubbed 'the apotheosis of dance'. It was the last piece conducted by Proms founder-conductor Henry Wood. This ebulliant symphonic music is contrasted with Pierre Boulez's beautifully serene Anth猫mes 2, scored for violin and live electronics.

Presented by Tom Service.
