Raksha Bandan
Do Asian sisters do too much for their brothers? Plus it's Raksha Bandan - how will you be celebrating? And Harjap Singh Bhangal takes your immigration question.
Do Asian sisters do too much for their brothers?
It's Raksha Bandan today and sisters all over the country are fleecing their brothers for presents and cash - in return the boys walk away with a thin piece of thread in exchange. Its a great tradition but does it hide some uncomfortable truths about Asian society
Is today a rare chance for the sisters to have the upper hand? By and large for the other 364 days of the year are sisters treated like servants by their brothers, made to fetch and carry while being treated like the golden members of the family?
Is the problem with sisters themselves? No-one is asking them to do everything for their brothers, do they put themselves in that position by volunteering to do all the work? is it just the Asian way?
Or are the parents to blame? When we were talking to guests this morning the words "mother-in-law" kept cropping up. If a man's mum spends the first twenty years of life telling him how special he is, is it any wonder that he starts to believe it? If mothers brought their sons up properly would we even have such an unequal society?
And after 2 pm - Immigration guru Harjap Singh Bhangal answers your questions.
