Prom 39 - Berlioz's Requiem

A Prom in which Thierry Fischer conducts the 大象传媒 National Orchestra of Wales and 500 choral voices in Berlioz's massive Requiem or Grande mess des morts.

When Berlioz wrote his massive Requiem or "Grande mess des morts" in 1837, it took him just 3 months to write. Composing for truly overwhelming forces including four brass bands and first performed in the imposing church of Les Invalides in Paris, it was the dramatic possibilities of the text that excited the composer. A suitably augmented 大象传媒 National Orchestra of Wales is joined by 500 choral voices in the cavernous acoustic of the Royal Albert Hall for this concert, the final time that Thierry Fischer will conduct the orchestra as Principal Conductor.

Presented by Sara Mohr-Pietsch
