John Terry and racism
Nihal asks whether making racist comments makes a person racist. Plus new feature Heroes and Villains, in which listeners nominate the good and the bad from the week's news.
Does making racist comments make you a racist?
Almost a year after the incident took place at Loftus Road, John Terry has been found guilty by the FA of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand.
In a match last October it's alleged the Chelsea defender used a deeply offensive term to Ferdinand and his words were captured on video tape. John Terry's defence was that he merely repeated words Ferdinand had used to him. He argued that just because he used those words that didn't mean he was racially abusing the QPR defender
What do you think about this?
Do you think anyone can use these terms without being a racist? Can racist language be dismissed as mere banter?
Terry's been banned for four games and been fined over two hundred thousand pounds, is that a just punishment? Luis Suarez was banned for eight games for using far less offensive terms. Has the former England captain been given special treatment?
Have you been in this situation? Has someone made racial insults to you and then claimed they're not racist. How did you react?
Do you accept that racial insults can sometimes be made by people who mean no harm?
Or do you think that racist terms can only be spoken by someone who is racist?
And after 2 - a new feature called 'Heroes and Villains' in which you nominate the good and the bad from the week's news.
