Elaine is forced to fall back on her mum's gold when her son's student loan runs out before the end of term. Elsewhere, Helen helps her best friend Maggie by lending her jewellery to pawn for cash - but roles are reversed when Helen receives bad news.
Young dad Mark faces a dilemma when he runs out of money to pay for nappies. And we meet Nirosha, who is struggling to repay her 拢3,000 debt. Meanwhile, the pawnbrokers are hoping for a bumper Christmas - but will they be hit by the credit crunch like the rest of the British high street?
