Hazel Irvine presents highlights from Medinah Country Club, Illinois, of the first day's play at the 39th Ryder Cup.

The European team, captained by Jose Maria Olazabal, begin the defence of the title they regained from the USA at Celtic Manor two years ago. The players expect better conditions this year than in 2010 when rain restricted play on the first day to just four four-ball games, and eventually forced the contest into a fourth day.
