Brian Matthew's Playing Hard to Get track this week will delight Doctor Who fanatics, and the Tornados feature in Both Sides of the Record.
Our Playing Hard To Get track this week will delight some of the Doctor Who fanatics amongst our listeners, as we're playing Who's Doctor Who by Frazer Hines. In 1968 Patrick Troughton took over from William Hartnell as the second in what was to become a long line of Doctors, and was joined on set by Hines (in the role of young Scottish lad Jamie).
The Tornados are the focus of our still relatively new feature Both Sides of the Record. We play their 1963 release, The Ice Cream Man; and the B side, Theme from the Scales of Justice. The latter was the title song from the series of short detective films introduced by Edgar Lustgarten, which was shown in cinemas during the 1960s, before the main feature film began.
Brian will be providing the usual eclectic mix of records from his collection, revealing the facts and figures behind the music.
