We remember the eccentric and brilliant astronomer Sir Patrick Moore, who's died aged 89.

News from home and abroad with Dotun Adebayo

Up All Night pays tribute to Sir Patrick Moore, who's died at the age of 89. We speak to those who knew him and had worked with him. Doug Ellison, from NASA, tells the programme what an important role Sir Moore played in encouraging generations of people to take an interest in astronomy, describing him as the 'steam engine' behind the Sky at Night. He also tells us about his 'childish enthusiasm' for astronomy, which rose to the surface as he Doug joined Sir Patrick in his dining room to watch the Phoenix Mars lander touch down on the red planet.

To Wyoming, where a wolf, described as the 'rock star' of Yellowstone national park, has been found shot dead by hunters, reigniting the debate over the hunting. Marc Cooke from Wolves of the Rockies tells us about her life as alpha female of her pack and how her legacy will continue through her offspring. Blames her death - and those of others - on mis-information about the animals.

And our phone-in is on the Hobbit - is it just a children's book or a gateway into the world of JRR Tolkein's Middle earth? We're joined by Murrough (Murra) O'Brien, the book reviewer for the Independent on Sunday, and Up All Night's very own Adam Rosser. They take your calls, emails and texts on your views on the book.
