The tricky job of translating Life of Pi to the big screen is given the thumbs-up by the author of the prize winning novel, Yann Martel. As the film opens to critical acclaim in cinemas, he tells Dotun he can see what a challenge it was to pull together such a 'scattered novel' and make it work as a movie. But, he tells Up All Night, the combined 'big bucks' of Hollywood and the 'genius' of director Ang Lee make it a success.

If the ice shelf of the western Antarctic melts -- global sea levels will rise by 11 feet. That's the worrying statistic from Professor David Bromwich who's led a new piece of research suggesting that section of the continent in warming faster than previously thought. He tells Dotun the warming trend has been steady over the past 50 years, but the area is increasing in size, mirroring similar problems seen in the northern hemisphere due to the depletion of the ozone layer. He urges no need for panic yet -- but isn't sure the changes are reversible.
