Michael looks at the work Charles Dickens did in London courts around 1830, and asks how his career as a shorthand reporter influenced his work. He investigates the mysteries of modern stenograph machines, and talks to people who operate them and to a leading barrister about the different ways we record words spoken in trials and other official proceedings.
