The Government is bringing in tighter controls over plant imports into the UK.
It's introducing a scheme which will make it mandatory for anyone bringing in oak, chestnut or plane trees to inform the Food and Environment Research Agency. Meanwhile, The Forestry Commission is under fire amid allegations it imported and planted 70,000 ash trees despite warnings of bringing in the disease. The Horticultural Trades Association and the Confederation of Forest Industries say they told the Commission of the potential threat of ash dieback in 2009.
