Reaction to the news that Pope Benedict XVI is to stand down at the end of the month. Ann Widdecombe and a Catholic clergyman who met the Pontiff last month are among the guests.
Catholic leaders, worshippers and commentators from around the world give us their reaction to the news that Pope Benedict XVI is to stand down at the end of February. Ann Widdecombe, the former Conservative MP who was awarded a papal honour in January, tells Shelagh the announcement sets a precedent for future Popes. Monsignore Phillip Najim met the Pontiff in the Vatican a few days ago, and says he was shocked by this morning's news. The Archbishop of Liverpool, Patrick Kelly, was also surprised, but said the fact the Pope made the decision was a mark of his "greatness".
