What has the EU done for gender equality? We discuss with Conservative MEP Marina Yannakoudakis and Dr Roberta Guerrina from the University of Surrey. Meklit Hadero singer and TED fellow talks about her East African musical influences and interest in conservation - and performs Leaving Soon from her album On A Day Like This. What has the EU ever done for women?
The UK joined the European community in 1973, but what has the EU achieved for gender equality in the last 40 years and what would be the impact if the UK pulled out of Europe? Marina Yannakoudakis is Conservative MEP for London and a member of the Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee and Dr Roberta Guerrina is听Senior Lecturer and Head of the School of Politics at the University of Surrey.Meklit Hadero
The singer/songwriter was born in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and raised in the US.听 She is known for her soulful performing style, and for combining jazz, folk, and East African influences in her music.听 Meklit is a TED听Senior Fellow and recently attended the TED Global Conference at Oxford University with a group of 24 other fellows (including young artists, scientists, NGO leaders, and inspiring individuals from around the world.)听听听She will be performing at the Festival at London鈥檚 Southbank Centre on Friday 8 March.听 She Jenni to talk about her musical career, arts and culture work, and, along with her band, to perform the track Leaving Soon live in the studio.听

My life: 'What's a girl?'
Jenni Murray is听joined by Shelby the 14 year old presenter of a C大象传媒 documentary called 鈥榃hat鈥檚 A Girl鈥. Shelby has never wanted to be a boy but she likes her short hair, lives in trousers and can鈥檛 stand pink. Today she鈥檚 confident about being true to herself but it hasn鈥檛 always been easy. She reflects on her own experience and what girls of all ages and personalities told her being a girl meant to them.

Melita Norwood was exposed, at the age of 87, as a Cold War spy for the Soviets. In the 1930s she was a secretary at the British Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association, and passed on secret documents, including details of Britain's first atomic bomb. has used Norwood鈥檚 story as the basis for her novel 鈥.鈥澨Broadcast
