The programme is live in Delhi as reports emerge that one of the men accused of the rape and murder of a student on a bus in the city has been found dead in prison.

News from home and abroad with Dotun Adebayo

Reaction from India to the breaking news that one of the suspects in the rape and murder of a student in the city has died in prison. Police say Ram Singh, who was the driver of the bus on which the brutal attack took place in December, killed himself. We speak to Delhi journalist Namita Bandare who met the rape victim's family just two days ago. She tells Dotun she can't imagine how this news will affect them, saying her mother is distraught over the loss of her daughter and unable to stop weeping. Reporter Jyoti Malhotra says this will just bring the case back under the spotlight --as well as the ongoing discussion over how sexual offences are dealt with in the country.

As the government confirms a British construction worker, and 6 other foreign hostages, have probably have been murdered by their kidnappers in Nigeria, we speak to security expert Dr Ona Ekhomu. He tells us the area the men were abducted from is a conflict zone, which requires extreme caution, and if you must travel you should have a lead car and a chase car, with clearance from both military and police commanders. He also predicts the response from Lagos will be swift and that the authorities are making progress in fighting militants but adds it's unclear whether Ansaru was formed due to infighting within Boko Haram or if it's a deliberate move to spawn splinter groups.

Scared of rats? Best make sure to check off a trip to Papua New Guinea as experts there have discovered a rat the size of a dog. Project coordinator Nathan Whitmore estimates the large woolly creature weights at least 2 kilos, and towers over another new species they came across - a tiny wallaby. The country is known as the global centre of rat diversity, but there's much more to see, with Mr Whitmore telling us in just one month, his team came across more than 100 new 'crazy creatures'...but could hear many others they just couldn't spot..this time.
