Director Ken Loach tells Janice Forsyth about making his documentary The Spirit of '45, plus Mike Kelt, CEO of Artem Special Effects, talks about working on Welcome to the Punch.
Director Ken Loach tells Janice Forsyth why he decided to make his documentary Spirit of '45 about the pivotal time in British history when the welfare state was established, following a period of mass employment in the thirties and resulting consequences such as lack of opportunity which Ken compares to the present recession.
Welcome to the Punch is the new action packed thriller starring James McAvoy, Mark Strong, Andrea Riseborough and Peter Mullan. Janice Forsyth speaks to Mike Kelt, the man responsible for engineering the special effects for Danny Boyle's Olympic Opening Ceremony, and CEO of Artem, which has headquarters in Govan. Mike tells Janice about the various effects his company provided for Welcome to the Punch and previous films such as Hot Fuzz, from rain to gunfire and explosions. Mike also talks about why he thinks Scotland needs to make better use of home-grown film talent.
Janice Forsyth and critics Siobhan Synnot and Paul Gallagher preview Spirit of '45, Welcome to the Punch and new risque thriller Paperboy - starring Matthew McConaughey and pretty boy Zac Efron as brothers, and Nicole Kidman as a woman with a penchant for very bad boy John Cusack.
Janice will also reveal some of the film festival events and releases that our listeners can enjoy over the next week.
