Dil Neiyyar hears how Sikh couples have faced threats, abuse and even violence from their own communities over mixed marriages, leaving gurdwaras unwilling to perform ceremonies.

There have been a series of protests against Sikh weddings across the UK by hardliners trying to stop people marrying outside the faith at Temples. In Coventry the home of a Sikh girl who was about to marry a Hindu was attacked on the wedding day - windows of the house were smashed and the couple had to have a police escort to the wedding. Other couples have had weddings blockaded or had to marry in secret. The Sikh hardliners protesting argue that these mixed marriages shouldn't be happening at gurdwaras and are travelling the country to 'spread their message' but their tactics have been heavily criticised by those at the receiving end. Some gurdwaras who used to carry out mixed marriages are now too scared to. This Asian Network documentary looks at the spread of these attacks, the men behind them and the couples scared on what's supposed to be the best day of their life.
