* The Catholic Archbishop of Durban has told 5 live he thinks paedophilia is a psychological "illness, not a criminal condition". Wilfrid Fox Napier, who took part in the conclave to elect Pope Francis, made the comments in an interview on 5 live's Stephen Nolan programme

* A Government advisor claims that the deaths of at least 20,000 people could have been prevented if his warnings about high hospital mortality rates had been acted on more quickly. Professor Sir Brian Jarman has accused ministers and officials of ignoring the data for nearly a decade.

* A soldier who died last year in Afghanistan is to be honoured with the military's top medal for gallantry, the Victoria Cross. Lance Corporal James Ashworth from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards was killed as he protected colleagues during fierce fighting while on patrol.
