Nazi Women

Magda Goebbels, married to Hitler鈥檚 propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels killed her six children in May 1945 as Berlin was overrun by the Red Army.听She wrote to her older son who was in a prisoner of war camp in north Africa that the children were 鈥渢oo good for the life that would follow鈥.听 Two novels published this month feature Magda Goebbels. The first, Black Roses set in 1933, explores the bizarre world of the Nazi wives as Nazi fervour grips the country; the second, Magda, set in 1945, explores the psychology of a woman who is driven to murder six of her children and then kill herself. Women in Architecture

This Friday听theannounces its annual Women in Architecture awards.听Jane is joined by Alison Brooks, is in the running for the title Woman Architect of the Year and Clare Devine, Chair of Women in Architecture. Despite听more women dropping out of architecture than almost any other profession why could neither of them ever contemplate听anything else?

Child Bereavement 鈥 should there be statutory leave for grieving parents?

Lucy Herd is campaigning for a听change in the law to compel employers to give parents at least听four weeks off work following the death of a child. Currently there is no fixed time period for such a bereavement and it is up to employers to exercise their discretion. Lucy Herd son鈥檚 Jack died at 23 months and she says that whilst many employers are sympathetic some only allow workers a minimum of three days leave.



Nashville Women in Country Music

More 4 is currently screening Callie Khouri鈥檚 (of Thelma & Louise fame) drama series set in the country music world. It听features an older, established country legend fighting to keep her recording deal and place in the spotlight, while being challenged for her crown by an ambitious, sexy and younger pop star. But does this storyline accurately reflect the position of women in the country music industry? Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman from the group , who all live in Nashville, joined Jane in the studio.听

Is the menopause a taboo subject?

Tracy Emin described the menopause as 鈥渁 nightmare, an absolute nightmare.听 It makes you feel slightly dead鈥. Other women see the menopause as a liberating time and the beginning of a new life.听听 But whatever your view, many see it as a taboo subject and find it hard to share the changes they are going through with their friends family and health professionals.听 Jenny 脡clair, who is going through the menopause now and Jane Woyka, a GP and specialist in women鈥檚 health.
